Beijing was awarded E-Visionary award for Asia at EVS-21

The 21st Worldwide International Battery, Hybrid and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle Symposium & Exhibition (EVS-21) was held in convention center of Monaco from 2nd to 6th April 2005, which was organized by World Electric Vehicle Association (WEVA) that acts to promote the development and use of electric and hybrid. The topic of meeting was electric vehicle development in the world, aiming to exchange experiences among electric vehicle demonstration cities, discuss new methods and promote clean transportation development in the world. More than 1600 attendees participated in the meeting, coming from European countries, America, Asia-Pacific and Africa respectively. A series of scientific, technical and business papers from experts across globe, total 288 were presented on ten seasons. In addition, this exhibition was display of products for electric based transportation including vehicle and component manufacturers, energy and infrastructure suppliers and transport authorities.
 

The EVS-21 conferred awards for the cities promoting electric vehicle development from Asia, Europe and America respectively. Beijing was awarded E-Visionary award for Asia due to its great achievements of electric vehicle in public transportation. Ms Shen Xiang, the representative from Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission accepted the award and gave a brief presentation, especially introduced the plan of developing electric vehicle in Beijing combining the Olympic Games in 2008.

During the symposium, EVS-22 executive chairman Mr. HISASHI ISHITANI gave high appraisement for Beijing project and pointed to the applied plan in Olympic Games in 2008 was existing especially. He considered Beijing as the significant representative for Asia. La Rochelle, France was awarded E-Visionary award for Europe; San Francisco, America was awarded E-Visionary award for America.
Beijing representative mission attended the Best Practices in Cities: Programmes Around World, Lessons, and Proposals for Action workshop. American, Asian and European cities that were leaders in the field presented new mobility systems, new urban logistics concepts, results of projects demonstrating the merits of using battery and hybrid electric vehicles in urban frameworks, perceptions by regional and municipal authorities of these new solutions for their transport and environmental policy as well as the impacts on energy use and the need for suitable infrastructure. Meanwhile, Beijing representative mission exchanged information and learned from others' experiences.
