Delegation attended international fuel cell bus workshop

  The International Fuel Cell Bus Workshop was held on Nov.19-20, 2003 in Long Beach CA after EVS-20. Electric Drive Transportation of America (EDTA) hosted the workshop that was sponsored by the U.S. Department of Transportation. During this one-and-a-half day workshop, the presentations were made by representatives of the European Union, US DOT, Japan, and Canada, as well as from the FC Bus project teams of Daimler Chrysler in Europe and Toyota FCB in Japan. The workshop was very enlightening and impressive.
Ms. Cynthia Page, Climate Change Specialist of UNDP/GEF gave a comprehensive presentation on UNDP-GEF Fuel Cell Bus program in 6 cities of 5 countries titled "UNDP/GEF Fuel Cell Bus Program for Developing Countries"

  Prof Dr. Ferdinand Panik introduced the background and current situation of UNDP/GEF Brazil and Mexico FC Bus projects. He projected their competitive procurement processes would be launched in early 2004.
Mr. John Wallace, China FC Bus project Chief Technical Advisor gave a Power-point presentation titled "China Fuel Cell Bus Solicitation- Providing clean options for the 2008 Olympic games". The content included project background, organization implementation plan and up-to-date progresses, etc.

  The last topic was a spirited discussion on a document "Fuel cell Transit Bus Coordination and Evaluation plan", drafted by California Fuel Cell Transit Evaluation Team on Oct.29, 2003. The main purpose of this activity is to set up a collaborative effort to collect and exchange the data, generated from different countries, geographic regions and technologies. Finally, Mr. Shang Q Hsiung from the Federal Transit Administration of the US Department of Transportation briefly summarized all the discussion in the workshop.
